Quick update

There are roughly 250 costumes in these two shows and first dress is Friday night. I finally picked up a needle and thread today and sewed for the first time since I arrived in West Virginia. I've been enjoying my job very much, but it was very rewarding to finally get to the sewing part. I mean I know I can handle the managing and business end of things, but sewing is what I did all throughout college and it was nice to participate in all the sewing needs that I created.
The most surprising thing about this experience so far has been that I am the costume designer for these two shows. Yes, these are stock shows and no, I didn't do any renderings, but every costume in these shows have to have my approval before they can be onstage. That's pretty awesome- and pretty terrifying knowing that there are 70 people in these shows.
Of course it hasn't been an easy ride. Everyday something has happened to set me back a little. Like when the choreographer came in last week and said that there were special costumes for all the dancers and I had no idea- lo and behold, those costumes weren't labeled and I gave them away to other actors. Or when my boss told me that I was teaching that make-up and wig workshop that all the actors were talking about. And then there was the story of the wigs that cannot be located and therefore must be replaced. Oy vey!
I wake up at 7 and I go to sleep by 12:30... ish... I think I've missed some meals and I spent 100 dollars on gas last week. Of course there's been a little tension with co-workers and some dramatic moments with roommates, and the futon is starting to get a little lumpy. But I'm having a great time.
On my day off yesterday, I went back to the waterfall that I jumped off the previous day off. Can you believe I actually jumped? It was awesome- but I can't believe I did it. And I never doubted that I would- still I actually jumped off a cliff--haha. I've assured my parents I won't do it again, and I don't think I will. The stage manager, James, is becoming my best friend here. He jumped off the cliff with me (or at least he was but I chickened out once he jumped-oops), he rides with me, drives my car if I'm too tired, makes me breakfast and we share popcorn at the movies. I love him. Yes, he is adorable and I know what you're thinking. C'mon ya'll I work in the theatre- of course he's gay!
But everyone's been great. Making some good friends from all around the country and hopefully making some good impressions on my employers who will push me further.
Wish I could post more but it's 12 am as it is and I need to finish reading the script for the 3rd show before the costume designer calls me tomorrow to chat about it (nervousexcitedihopeidon'tscrewup).
And even better news: I'm buying two brand new sewing machines tomorrow! YAY!
