We opened a world premiere last night. Camera crews, red carpet and many inspirational speeches ensued. I really hated this show. I still hate a lot about it. But damn if last night was not one of the most exciting nights in theatre that I have ever been a part of. There was a different kind of opening night energy going around. Many parts of the show did go right until last night, and I was dancing in the wings when finally, all the pieces fell together like they were supposed to. Not that last night didn't have its glitches.. there were quite a few actually. But to have a full house and a standing ovation is pretty exciting. Maybe this show will go to Broadway.. maybe not. Either way I am glad I got to be a part of it.
Oh and this musical is based on a true story. It actually has already been made into a movie with Jake Gyllenhal playing the lead. I met the real dude last night and he signed my program. Its really cool that he signed a program that his bio was in as well as my own. I'm famous... or will be.
I extended my contract to stay here a week longer and they asked me to sign a contract for next summer already. I think it is still too soon to decide if I will be back next summer, but I might - as long as there are NO MORE WORLD PREMIERE'S! Oh and no more "equity" actors from NY that think they are better than everyone else just because they were on Saved By The Bell.... you are no better than anyone else in this company, sir. In fact, there are many people in this company better than you. Whatever. I'm a better person having survived a show with you. :)
If Anyone is bored and has the time to drive up to WV. Come see Rocket Boys the musical. It may actually be worth your wild.
Nice to hear some wrap-up. i liked the movie...grins and hugs.
